A huge part of how visceral these reactions were (including literal streams of tears, people) comes down to Ness’ excellent characterisation – not only for the human characters, but also of Manchee, Todd’s dog. “Just have yer stupid poo and quit yapping about it.” At the same time, TKoNLG is also full of incredible depth of emotion that runs the whole gamut, digging deep into me as I followed Todd throughout his gritty story and feel all that he experiences. This book was AMAZING.įirst of all, it’s filled with hilarious moments and an absorbingly direct writing style straight from the get-go: “Poo,” Manchee barks quietly to himself. Who is she? Why wasn’t she killed by the germ like all the females on New World? On the cusp of manhood, Todd must unlearn everything he knows in order to find out who he truly is. With hostile men from the town in pursuit, Todd and his simple but loyal dog stumble upon a strange and eerily silent creature: a girl.

Todd is just a month away from becoming a man, but in the midst of the cacophony, he knows that the town is hiding something from him – something so awful Todd is forced to flee. Ever since the settlers were infected with the Noise germ, Todd can hear everything the men think, and they hear everything he thinks. 'Comatose,' referring to Todd at the end of, 'Monsters Of Men.Todd Hewitt is the only boy in a town of men. 'American Noise,' because of the Noise they hear. 'Not Gonna Die' for SOOOOOO obvious reasons. 'Circus For A Psycho,' (Todd and the Mayor.) 'Rise,' referring to, 'The Answer,' and Todd and Viola. And I'm pretty sure that's how most of the characters felt at some point. 'Hero' cos that's probably how Todd and Viola felt throughout the series. Also referring to many characters throughout the trilogy. 'Awake and alive,' reminds me of Todd at the end of 'Monsters of men,' because even though he's in a coma, he's still conscious (Awake) and alive.

Or both :)įirst off, 'Monster,' is referring to Todd, obviously, in, 'Monsters of men.' Also referring to him at other times in the first two books, but mainly the last one. YOU HAVE TO LISTEN TO THESE SONGS, THEY WOULD BE AWESOME EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T REMIND YOU OF THE CHAOS WALKING SERIES.
